Software Developer | VB.NET - Analytics / Data market

Job Description

This is a part-time role (10 hours/week) for a 6-12-month contract. The position involves developing new features and UI screens in VB.NET for the core Commission Tracker product. You will migrate legacy VB6 reports and features to VB.NET while maintaining the existing application style and branding. Additionally, you will build reports using Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2019 and write and optimize SQL queries for both Jet (MDB) and MySQL (AWS RDS) databases.

The role requires extending and reusing components from the in-house code library to reduce redundant development. You will collaborate with the owner/architect by implementing software details based on clear outlines and instructions, participate in testing iterations incorporating layout and functionality feedback, and report progress regularly with detailed time spent and blockers in an hour-by-hour format. This position contributes to a mature software system under continuous evolution for over 25 years.

Requirements

• 3+ years of software development experience
• 3+ years of VB.NET experience
• Experience with the .NET 4.8 Framework
• Experience with SQL, including Jet (MDB) and MySQL (AWS RDS)
• Proficiency in writing optimized SQL queries and managing data in database-driven applications
• Ability to work in a secure virtual environment (e.g., Amazon AWS) with remote collaboration tools
• Ability to follow detailed specs and architectural guidelines for feature development
• Availability to work independently and deliver small to medium-sized tasks with minimal supervision
• Strong communication skills in both spoken and written English
